Port Of New York (1949)

Time for more Eagle-Lion film noir as we present "Port of New York." This movie, shot in semidocumentary style, stars Scott Brady, Richard Rober, K.T. Stevens, and Yul Brynner (who still had hair on his noggin; this marks Yul's big-screen debut). Screenplay by Eugene Ling with additional dialogue by Leo Townsend; suggested by a story by Arthur A. Ross and Bert Murray. Photographed by George E. Diskant, A.S.C. A Contemporary production, this 1949 film was produced by Aubrey Schenck and directed by Lazlo Benedek. This looks like a TV syndication print.

1932 A Man's Land (Hoot Gibson, Marion Shilling, Robert Ellis)

From Allied Pictures in 1932, we present Hoot Gibson, Marion Shilling, and Robert Ellis staring in "A Man's Land." In this one, Tex Mason (Hoot) and Peggy Turner (Marion) each inherit one half of the Triple X Ranch.  John Thomas (Robert) wants the ranch to himself and recruits Triple X hand Joe (played by Charles King) let his men rustle the cattle. With story by Adele Buffington, this picture was produced by M. H. Hoffman, Jr. and directed by Phil Rosen.

From Monogram Pictures in 1943, we present "Cosmo Jones, Crime Smasher," a film in which, an amateur detective and a janitor attempt to uncover a kidnapped heiress. This flick stars Mantan Moreland, Edgar Kennedy, Gale Storm, and Frank Graham (in the title role). Screenplay by Michael L. Simmons and Walter Gering, adapted from Mr. Gering's original story, in turn, based on the CBS Radio Network's Cosmo Jones program. Produced by Lindsley Parsons and directed by James Tinling.

From 1948, we present "Inner Sanctum," starring Charles Russell and Mary Beth Hughes. Billy House, Dale Belding, Fritz Lieber, Nana Bryant, and Lee Patrick were also in the cast. From M.R.S. Pictures and released by Film Classics. Jerome Todd Gollard wrote the original screenplay. With Richard B. Morros as executive producer, this film was produced by Samuel Rheiner and Walter Shenson, and directed by Lew Landers.

The Inner Circle (1946) DETECTIVE

From Republic Pictures in 1946, we present "The Inner Circle." In this one, a  private detective finds himself with a perfect new secretary. But after a notorious gossip columnist turns up murdered, she may prove too good to be true. Adele Mara, Warren Douglas, William (Fred Mertz) Frawley, and Ricardo Cortez headline this cast, which includes TV's future Mrs. Olson herself, Virginia Christine. Dorrell and Stewart McGowan's screenplay was based upon Leonard St. Clair and Lawrence Taylor's (NOT that one) suggested radio script. With William J. O'Sullvan as associate producer, this film was directed by Phil Ford.

Time for 1954 Republic Pictures film noir as Herbert J. Yates presents Dorothy McGuire and Stephen McNally starring in "Make Haste to Live." Mary Murphy, Edgar Buchanan, John Howard, and Carolyn Jones are also in the cast. Warren Duff's screenplay is based on The Gordons' same-named novel. Directed by the associate producer William A. Seiter.

Hirliman as executive producer, this here picture was produced by Don Lieberman and directed by Samuel Diege.

He gets his chance when he and his gang discover a poor old man who has a championship race horse, but they first the raise money to race's entry fees! This picture features Clarence Muse, Dave ( Reefer Madness ) O'Brien, Joyce Bryant, "Sunshine" Sammy Morrison, and David Gorcey (Leo's brother). Alan Whitman wrote the original and William Lively the screenplay. Produced for Four Bell Pictures by Sam Katzman. Directed by Joseph H. Lewis. Re-Issue print.

With Trem Carr in charge of production, and story by Leah Baird, this picture was directed by Harry O. Hoyt and Albert Kelley. This is a reissue print.

Time for a 1936 Republic Pictures Western as Gene Autry stars, with Smiley Burnette, in "The Big Show." Gene and Smiley are joined in the cast by Kay Hughes, Sally Payne, William Newell, Max Terhune, Charles Judels, the Sons of the Pioneers(which included Roy Rogers), the Jones Boys, the Beverly Hill Billies, the Light Crust Doughboys, and Gene's horse, Champion. This picture, with screenplay and original story by Dorrell McGowan and Stewart E. McGowan, and with  Armand Schaefer as associate producer, was produced by Nat Levine and directed by Mack V. Wright. Filmed at Fair Park in Dallas, site of the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition, amongst other locations. This is a TV syndication print.

Higgins and Crane Wilbur (who wrote the original story) with additional dialog by Harry Essex. Photographed by John Alton, A.S,C. This 1948 Bryan Foy production was produced by Robert T. Kane and directed by Alfred Werker. This film was made with the co-operation of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Springsteen.

However, he has a falling out with the gang when they believe he should share the money with them. Complications ensue when the crook that Danny helped capture escapes from jail and comes looking for him. This one stars Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, Bobby Jordan, Gabriel Dell, Stanley Clements, Bobby Stone, and Sunshine Sammy Morrison. Original story and screenplay by Harvey H. Gates. This movie was produced by Sam Katzman and Jack Dietz (for Banner Productions) and directed by Wallace Fox. This is an Astor Pictures re-issue print.

Wrangler's Roost (1941) THE RANGE BUSTERS

From Monogram Pictures in 1941, we present The Range Busters (Ray "Crash" Corrigan, John "Dusty" King, and Max "Alibi" Terhune---with his sidekick Elmer) in "Wrangler's Roost." In this one, the notorious outlaw Black Bart has reappeared and the Range Busters are sent to investigate. When they find that Black Bart is now a respectable citizen and that someone is impersonating him, they set a trap for the robber. The cast included Forrest Taylor, Gwen Gaze, George Chesebro, Frank Ellis, Jack Holmes, and Walter Shumway. Earle Snell wrote the original story and John Vlahos and Robert Finkle contributed the screenplay. A George W. Weeks production. William L. Nolte was the production manager. This flick was directed by S. Roy Luby.

Time for a 1936 movie "I Conquer The Sea," starring Steffi Duna! In this one, the captain of a fishing boat loses his arm while out at sea.  He determines not to let the loss of his arm ruin his life as he goes back out to sea as a one-armed sailor. Steffi's joined in the cast by Stanley Morner (a.k.a. Dennis Morgan, who came courtesy of MGM), Douglas Walton, and George Cleveland. Story adaptation by Richard Carroll and dialog by Rollo Lloyd and Howard Higgin. Produced by Edward Halperin and directed by Victor Halperin. This Halperin Pictures production was released by Academy Pictures Distributing Corporation. Some scenes were shot on location in Newfoundland.

With cinematography by John Alton, this film was written by Robert Kane and Crane Wilbur---who directed it.
